Our technology

Our research and development with computer scientists at the University of Sheffield has been ongoing for over a decade. We’ve developed app-based tools capable of assessing sleep breathing from sound collected at the bedside using a mobile phone. This means we can now analyse sleep breathing without risking the kind of disruption to sleep that can be caused by more invasive sleep testing equipment.

What is the Home Sleep Study
(HSS) Kit?

Our kit includes Bluetooth body sensors and an acoustic recording app. It collects information about your body position, breathing sounds, and the relationship between the two.

It’s designed to be comfortable and unobtrusive, so it won’t be just another thing to cause you sleep stress.

After using the kit, our sleep coaches will talk you through your results. They’ll help you consider your options: to investigate further, or explore available solutions.*

Unlike many home sleep tests, ours is reusable. So if you want to check your progress, you can simply purchase a follow up consultation and re-use your HSS Kit.

*Note: The HSS kit and questionnaire assessment will not provide a medical diagnosis. But it will help you better understand your sleep and breathing and make decisions about what to do next. You should always consult your doctor if you’re concerned about your sleep health.

What can the HSS Kit tell us?

Your sleep positions throughout the night.

The number of times where you may have stopped breathing, or struggled to breathe.

How often and how loudly you snore

How your body position relates to these events
